This is a MapRun and social event for SUFFOC Members starting from the Lion Inn in Needham Market. This will be using an updated map including the Needham Lakes recreation area and part of the town, giving a variety of terrain. 

This will be a “score” orienteering event where the object is to visit as many controls as you can in a fixed time. You can visit the controls in any order. Each control has a "score" - with higher scores for controls which are further away and/or harder to find. The Needham Market map lends itself well to this. Part of the challenge will be to work out how best to link controls on both sides of the railway, and the river, using the restricted number of crossing points.

The plan will be to start between 6.00 and 6.30pm from The Lion Inn, finishing at the same place, with the opportunity for a communal drink and/or pub meal afterwards. 

For those who've not tried Maprun before you will need a GPS enabled mobile phone with the free Maprun app installed. There are no control markers, but your phone will "beep" when you reach each control. The app records your progress and produces results. There is more information about Maprun on our website here.

Do join us if you can make it, it would be great to see a good showing of club members there. But if you're not free on the day, it will also be possible to do the course later, in your own time.
