Club News

  • With World Orienteering Day originally scheduled for next week Lockdown Orienteering has put together a series of virtual challenges - anyone can take part, but you do need to register before 13:00 on Tuesday 12th May.

More locally, we've designed an armchair challenge for you for the following week as unfortunately all our annual Simon Peck Summer Series events have had to be cancelled, or at least postponed for some time. You can view the details here & the map & questions will be available from 29th May, with the answers published on Monday 1st June.

  • Could you plan virtual orienteering courses? Courses which people could try on their own while maintaining physical distancing, for when things ease a little? British Orienteering is putting on 3 webinars (free to members) during the next three weeks:

Routegadget: With Simon Errington, Happy Herts Orienteering Club (HH) on Thursday 7 May at 7.30pm

MapRun: With Pat MacLeod, North Gloucestershire Orienteering Club (NGOC) on Tuesday 12 May at 7.30pm

Open Orienteering Map: Tuesday 19th May at 7:30pm

Further details & registration links are to be found on the British Orienteering website.

  • We know that some people are participating in "Lockdown Orienteering" instead of the JK - it's probably too late to enter now, but British Orienteering have created a page with links to resources & are also welcoming reminiscences about previous JK events.

Worth looking at.. Stay safe, folks..

  • Along with the governing bodies of other sports, British Orienteering has issued the following statement:

    Suspension of all orienteering activities

It is with great sadness that we are now in a position where all orienteering activities in the UK have to be suspended with immediate effect.

We are aware that the Coronavirus outbreak is a very fluid and rapidly changing situation. We will, therefore, continue to follow advice from Public Health England, World Health Organisation and both local and national governments on this matter and will keep the orienteering family updated as appropriate.

  • The results of both the EA League & the new EA Urban League were published at the end of the year & the presentations took place at SOS’s EA League event at Writtle Forest on 2nd February.   Congratulations to our eight age-class winners - Roderick, Chloe, Bronwen, Lizzie, Sarah & Sally in the EAL & to Alesha & Phil in the EAUL.

The 2020 EA League started on 2nd February at SOS's Writtle Forest event & the 2020 EA Urban League will begin on 16th May (tbc) in Harwich.
