The East Anglian Schools' Championships were held as part of Norfolk Orienteering's Hockham event on 10th November. Alesha took Gold in the Y11 class (& 5th overall on the Light Green course) while James was in 3rd place in the Y6 boys (& on the White course). Congratulations to them both, & to all who took part in this interesting but tricky area.
The British Schools Score Championships took place on October 12th in Heaton Park, Manchester, in excellent weather. James achieved a silver medal in the Year 5 Boys class with 150 points, just 10 points behind the winner, & his brother Ben finished 10th in the highly competitive Year 10/11 Boys class. Both the boys' and girls' teams from Barnardiston Hall School came second in the Middle Schools Category. Congratulations to all who took part.
We had planned, together with our neighbouring club, WAOC, a forest-and-urban weekend, & had promised two contrasting events, but had not anticipated quite how much difference there would be! Saturday's event at West Harling was held in beautiful autumnal sunshine while Sunday's weather was the subject of a Met Office severe weather warning. The warning, together with early heavy rain & difficult driving conditions, discouraged some participants, but those who did attend had a second day of excellent orienteering.

We've had the first event, in the forest at West Harling today (you can view the results here), & our first-ever complete urban event in Bury St Edmunds is tomorrow, Sunday. There'll be courses to suit everyone, whatever your age or fitness level, &, in the urban, special "Taster" courses for newcomers. On-the-day entry is available for the "Taster" & for the competition courses - it's best to plan to arrive early in the registration period to enter your preferred competition course, as we have a finite number of maps still available for each one.

Urban orienteering's great fun - & the Junior courses are virtually traffic free so it's good for youngsters, with or without family support on the actual course!
Entries are now open for our orienteering weekend in early October. We'll be at West Harling on Saturday 5th & in the centre of Bury St Edmunds the following day, so you'll experience both forest & urban orienteering.
It's possible for individuals to enter any of the main courses via the Fabian4 website (& also to hire a SI card if necessary) - it enables you to fast-track straight to the Start on the day, unless you're hiring a SI card, & ensures that we have the correct map for you. Entry on the day will depend on map availability.
Both days cater for all levels of experience - the urban event has "Taster" courses for newcomers - & we know that beginners often prefer to enter with friends/family members. If you're interested in group entry or a "Taster" course then you'll need to enter on the day - you'll probably want to ask our Helpdesk for advice on the best course to select anyway.
